Tours

Are your tours suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility?

The Changing of the Guard Tour requires a good level of mobility as we will be marching alongside the Guards and there is at least one set of steps to navigate, so it is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.

All our other tours can be adapted to suit wheelchair users or those with limited mobility – just let us know ahead of time so the guide can prepare a suitable alternative step-free route.

How do I recognise the Guide?

Our guide will be carrying a Fun London Tours flag.

How early should I arrive for the walk?

Please come 10 minutes before the allotted time so that we are ready to go promptly, especially if you have decided to come without booking online. Please note that in London there are regular road closures, engineering works on the tube and other events which can easily delay your journey. Ensure you make allowances for this as we do not wait for latecomers.

What time does the tour start and finish, and where?

You will find all this information and more on the relevant tour page and also on your confirmation email.

What do I need to bring? Are there any toilet/refreshment breaks?

We would suggest dressing sensibly for the predicted weather conditions. So a raincoat or small umbrella can be a good idea with the notoriously changeable weather in England! As the tours usually last a maximum of two hours, we will not be stopping for breaks, although we will endeavour to start and finish near to public facilities and shops. We would recommend bringing some water, and using the public facilities before coming on the tour.

What happens if I don’t turn up on time?

The Guide will leave promptly at the designated time. Although there may be an introduction to the tour, this will be brief and your guide will not answer the phone once the tour has started.

Does the tour go ahead in the rain?

Yes, all our tours go ahead in the rain, so come prepared for the famous British weather!

One thing to note for our changing the guard tour: The British Army reserve the right to alter the changing the guard ceremony if they so wish, but will not make a decision until the event is due to start. If there is a threat of rain, your guide will inform the group of the potential impact on the ceremony. You will always see guards, but their movements may vary, and musicians may not play.

Will the tour always be the same?

The theme of the tour will not deviate from what is advertised, although the guide reserves the right to alter the content and route.

How long do walks last?

The duration of our walks vary. Most are either 1.5 hours or 2 hours. Check the details of the individual walk for further information.

How far do we walk?

This depends on the tour. All of the walks will have between 5 and 15 stops, with a 3-5 minute walk between them. The Changing The Guard tour has a three minute burst where we march at the same pace as the guards, but otherwise all our walks are rather easily paced!

May I use video on the tour?

Although we are happy for photos and video of the surroundings to be taken during the tour, please do not video record the guide unless they have given you permission.

Do you offer tours in languages other than English?

Unfortunately not.

How many people are in a group?

We are keen to ensure that the groups are not too large. Usually we have a limit of 20 per guide (25 on changing the guard). Sometimes we may have a full tour, on other occasions, just five or ten people.

Who can come on the walks?

We have a variety of walks. The Changing The Guard is lively and fun, and are suitable for all ages, but requires good mobility. Some of the other walks are not suitable for children, and this is clearly stated when booking the tour.

Who is responsible for the safety of walkers?

The Guide will remind you of safety precautions at the beginning of each walk, but each member of the group is responsible for their own safety.

Do you allow pets on your tours?

We permit guide dogs only.

Tips & Gratuities

This is of course at your discretion. However, tipping is a feature of the tourist industry, and if you feel the Tour Guide has done a good job then it is appropriate.

Booking

What happens if I fail to turn up? Will I get a refund?

No, we’re afraid not. If there are extenuating circumstances why you were unable to come, please drop us a line at info@funlondontours.com and we will try to find a space for you on a later date but we cannot guarantee this.

Will the walk ever be cancelled?

It is very unlikely. The main reason for a tour being cancelled would be a major transportation issue, although this is extremely rare. The Guides live in London, so can make use of the tube and bus network and will follow up to date transport information to try to prevent any problems. Very rarely extreme weather conditions could prevent a tour going ahead, but even in heavy rain or snow tours generally continue (bring your umbrellas and ponchos if bad weather is predicted!)

There are a few rare occasions through the year where the Guard Change fails to take place for reasons out of the hands of the Tour Guide. Sometimes this will not become apparent until after the walk starts (usually due to weather conditions). In such a case the Tour Guide will continue with a modified tour. If you are not 100% satisfied with this, we will endeavour to provide you with an alternative date, tour or discount.

If a total of fewer than four people are booked onto the tour then we reserve the right to cancel. In such cases you will be sent an email/SMS and given prior notice, with the offer of a refund or alternative date.

In the event of cancellation, we will endeavour to let you know with as much notice as possible by either email or SMS and provide a full and prompt refund or offer an alternative date/tour if preferable.

Can I turn up for a walk without booking first?

It is very possible that our tours will be full so if you turn up without booking you may well miss the tour. This is particularly relevant on the Changing The Guard which is extremely popular. We limit numbers on our tours to make them more personable and to maximise enjoyment, so we would have to turn you away if this number has been reached. However, those who booked online will be prioritised, followed by a first to arrive basis.

If you don’t book in advance you will not get any notification of changed locations or cancellations. We will always turn up for the tour if someone has booked, but if there have been no bookings for a tour it is very likely that it will be cancelled. And don’t forget, some of the walks are discounted for those who book online.

Can you take bookings over the phone?

Unfortunately we don’t have the facility to do this.

Are there any discounts for students, Senior Citizens or those on benefits?

Currently we have discounted tickets for children under 18 and also sell family tickets on some tours. All under 5s come for free. Please check each individual tour for further details.

Do you have group concessions?

Please email info@funlondontours.com regarding this. Depending on demand, it may be possible, but not a guarantee.

Can I book a private tour?

Sure! Our guides tend to be booked quite far in advance – especially during peak times – but please email info@funlondontours.com with your request. We tend to have more availability on shorter private tours of 1.5 – 2 hours in length. As of January 2023, prices start at £250.

I haven’t received a confirmation email for my booking

Please check your junk box as the confirmation email is sent out automatically following a booking.

When I book the tour do I need to wait for tickets to arrive in the post?

No, your confirmation email is your ticket. Just show this to the guide on the day of the tour.

Why should I book with Fun London Tours?

We are Professional Guides, and as such, take our job seriously. We are all experienced, and perform the walks on a daily basis so are used to all manner of situations.

It is also fundamental that the tours are enjoyable and ‘fun’ rather than dry and merely informative. Each walk has been created with an element of adventure and innovation in mind and as such, should mark it out from other standard guiding companies. We are a relatively newly formed organisation, with a fresh take on guiding, and will provide a friendlier, personal touch than most.

And don’t forget, our Guides are recommended by the foremost Changing the Guard website, www.changing-guard.com and as such offer an unparalleled access to up to date information and notifications about the Changing The Guard ceremony, have won countless Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence and have featured on renowned publications like the Londonist and About.com.

Can I leave any Customer comments?

We encourage your feedback, and as such will provide each member of the tour with our contact details at the end of the tour. Please send your comments to info@funlondontours.com and feel free to post your review on Trip Advisor, Google or Yelp.

As we are a relatively small company, any positive feedback which can be seen on TripAdvisor or our Facebook page is enormously appreciated so that more people can enjoy our tours in the future!

If in the unlikely event that you have a complaint, please email us at info@funlondontours.com and we will endeavour to respond promptly.

Do you have any Job Vacancies?

Thanks for your interest but we are not currently looking to recruit.

Do you have any tour guide vacancies?

We are a small company with a close knit group of guides and only add one or two fresh faces each year at most.

If you are interested, contact info@funlondontours.com with a CV.

Please note that we only take on guides who have at least a year guiding experience.
