Visiting the Churchill War Rooms
Tickets for the Churchill War Rooms are sold by Imperial War Museums, which runs the museum, and are best booked online for a timed entry slot. An adult ticket costs around £34, children pay less and under-fives go free.
We’re a walking tour company rather than the museum, so if you only want a ticket, book it directly with Imperial War Museums. This page covers what tickets cost, when the museum is open and the best times to go, and which of our tours include entry, so there is nothing extra to book.
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult (16 to 64) | £34 |
| Child (5 to 15, with an adult) | £17 |
| Under 5 | Free |
| Imperial War Museums members | Free |
Prices as of October 2026. They have changed three times in the past year, so check the Imperial War Museums website before you book.
Sometimes, but it’s best not to rely on it. The timed slots are usually sold out by the day itself, and in summer and other busy times they can sell out up to a week ahead, so book as early as you can.
Children under five and Imperial War Museums members go free. Everyone else pays. This catches some visitors out, because Imperial War Museum London in Lambeth is free to enter, but the Churchill War Rooms are not.
The War Rooms are open every day from 9.30am to 6pm, with last entry at 5pm. They close on 24, 25 and 26 December.
The early entry slots sell out first. Otherwise, the season matters more than the time of day, though from about 4pm it tends to be a little quieter.
Under-fives and members go free, and children pay less than adults. Discount schemes come and go, so check the Imperial War Museums website for current offers before you book.
The main benefit is a guaranteed entry ticket: we buy it as soon as you book, so there’s no risk of finding the slots sold out. Your guide also gives you plenty of tips on how to make the best use of your time inside and what to look out for. Our Churchill and the Blitz walk with War Rooms entry covers Westminster’s wartime sights first, then leaves you at the entrance to explore at your own pace with the audio guide.
If you’d like a guide with you inside the museum, choose one of our private tours. The museum allows each guide up to six people, so these are for groups of six or fewer. The private War Rooms museum tour spends 90 minutes inside with your guide, and the private Westminster, WW2 and War Rooms tour adds a guided walk first.
Entry is included in the price of these tours, so there’s no separate ticket to buy. As soon as you book with us, we buy your ticket through the War Rooms’ own website. If your tour starts with the walk, your museum entry time is 1.5 hours after the tour starts.
The War Rooms’ terms are that tickets are non-refundable and can’t be exchanged, so this also applies to your booking with us.
If you’re running late for a public tour, call us. As long as it’s no more than 15 minutes, you can usually catch up with the group. Beyond that, the area is too busy to find your guide. On a private tour your guide will wait for you, but they’re booked for a set time, so arriving late means a shorter tour.
